Thrift Store Finds

I have a confession. I have a wee little obsession with thrift stores. I'll admit, I think it was one of those nature vs. nurture things, this being more on the side of "nurture" than the former. My mom and dad love to shop at thrift stores. Goodwill was as regular a stop as the local grocery store. I grew up in the back seat of a car that would quite litterally brake for garage sales. Not only is it in my blood, but there is just the feel of holding something with a story, with history. I often wonder how many family gatherings were held through the years that involved food steaming from these dishes. I picture a grandma cooking apple pies off recipes that are tattered and grease spattered. Ok, call me a romantic.

I make a stop frequently at the Red, White and Blue thrift store in Milwaukie becuase they often have a gold mine of pretty, vintage things. And on those days that they don't, I just pick Sissy up some great designer clothes.

Today, I found vintage kitchen ware.

This pie plate is in perfect condition, made of ceramic and circa 1976. Pure prettiness.
This is the from the same manufacturer, but more of an aqua version. I love it! I envision many apple pies and quiches made in this.
I always look for Pyrex mixing bowls  - this one is actually a softer pink than the photo looks. I love that it is worn in from a previous cook or cooks.
The dish below is from Anthropolgie and the reason I know that is becuase the $28 tag was still attched. I got all these dishes for $3/peice. Yay!

Jude's 6th Birthday

Jude's birthday was on Friday and I purposed this year (since he's been talking about his birthday for about 6 months) to make this day (and, as it turns out, the day after) a special one for him. We did meals that he chose and his party was at the bowling alley, also of his choosing. I took a ton of pictures, since I feel I'm falling horribly behind in documenting my kids' childhoods.

Here is Boss at the bowling alley. He had loads of fun!
Grandpa Tim and Boss.
Jude got this too-small (just like he likes it) vest and donned it all day long. Paired with his stained and tattered and tucked in white t-shirt, of course.
Here was the breakfast he chose - waffles with jam and whipped cream on top.
Here I believe everyone is singing to him.
Blowing out the candles on the cinnamon roll cupcakes.
This celebration was at the Wagners house - the place we have Bible study every Friday. He requested an Oreo cheesecake for that. This was the first time I made it and it turned out! I always get scared of cheesecakes for some reason.

Jude (and many helpers) opening presents.
Star Wars and Legos are what Jude is into right now. He actually is pretty obsessed with Legos. He wakes up talking about them, and when he's not building them throughout the day, he's telling a story about them. He told me a few days ago, "I have Lego ideas swirling around in my head!" I'm wondering if his career will be with designing and building things...
Samuel made a happy face for Jude's birthday waffle.

Europe 2025. PDX to Rome, Day 1.

This trip was many months in the making. I actually love making travel plans and this one was no exception. The difference here was that t...
