It's Better With Butter.

Sometimes when I'm in the middle of cooking dinner and I need the baby to stay off my leg, I give her food. Yesterday that food was a dinner roll and lots of butter. As I was stirring my minestrone, I looked to the right and saw this: Juliet had dropped the butter on the ground and since her hands were full of dinner roll, she just sucked it up with her mouth. The great thing about having lots of kids is that by the time you have a third, you don't care as much about stuff like this:
You consider it good even. It's immunity building. And sometimes you have to lie down and have a moment with your food:
Happy Monday!

Paper Christmas Tree & Birthday

How fun is this little paper Christmas tree?! No, I didn't make it. Yet. Here is the tutorial. I would love to tackle this for the holiday season. And if I get stressed out enough, I just might hole myself up, lock the door and start cutting/gluing...

Yesterday was my birthday and I officially am amazed by my husband. He said he had a few surprises for me, so we left the kiddos with my mom and escaped the house around lunch at which point he drove me to Portland, arriving at a certain Expo that made me completely gleeful and walked patiently around with me while I would "ooooo" and "ahhh" at every booth and didn't say a word while I emptied my wallet at said Expo. Then he took me to my favorite Lebanese restaurant (revise: my favorite restaurant in Portland and it happens to be Lebanese) on Hawthorne and then (as if that weren't enough!!) he took me to pick out my sweet 40 in flat screen TV for the craft room that I will be moving into soon in our house. 40 inches of high definition British drama while I sew and scrapbook. Amazing. Now, how will I top that for his birthday?! What a guy.

Painting.

Currently we are working on converting an upstairs bedroom to Jude and Samuel's room, which starts with painting. Colin let the boys "help" paint the closet - so cute!

Sissy was an incredible help as well. Just kidding - she's a menace and could only hang out around wet paint for 30 seconds before I removed her to downstairs.

Samuel's Quote.

I have to get this quote down so I can document it later.

Samuel stated after observing me running around the house cleaning frantically and muttering questions of how everything got so messy: "Mama, if you worked at a dump and lived here, this wouldn't seem so bad."

I have a book of quotes going, because with three kids and a sarcastic husband, I have documented some pretty funny ones.

Scrapbook Layout (September)

For this month I chose this for my inspiration: And came up with this:
It was about Jude's first day of school, because I really want to document it.
I love stitching on my scrapbook pages.
This was done in about 2 1/2 hours (not counting the hour or so it took to haul all my crafty stuff out to the living room =). Now I'm onto sewing Christmas presents. So fun!

Jude's First Day of School.

I just want to make sure and document the little things about Jude's first day of school today. When Colin dressed him, he cried not only over the pants, but the shirt as well. Since I am discouraging any weird, picky behavior (yes, I chose this battle), he still wore the outfit. He was happy by the time he showed up to school (he's posing in from of Mrs. Susie's chicken house):
Here he is with Mrs. Susie:
He will be starting out going Tuesday and Fridays and we'll see how he does. He's pretty young for school (3 1/2), but he has been begging to play with the preschool toys since Samuel started attending. I asked him what his favorite part was and he said playing with toys.
I also asked him what he ate at snack time, he stated it was healthy stuff. Like what? Bananas (which he did not eat), donuts (both white and brown), gummy bears and crackers. I love that he can get to have such a fun time at school. And he also loves these animal cookies that are handed out as the kiddos leave for the day:
My sweet baby is in school! Time flies when you are having fun =).

Raw Quinoa.

I made the mistake of vacuuming at the kids' bedtime last night and when I walked into the kitchen after my chore was completed, I found this face:
And it's hard to see here, but Juliet had gotten into the pantry racks (you'd think we would get rid of these by now, considering how much time I spend cleaning up all the things that mysteriously appear all over the kitchen floor every day) and poured the bag of quinoa all over herself and started to snack on it.
She also swam around in it a bit.
Off to another week of homeschooling and general chaos.

Tee for Two Pattern

I just recently placed an order from Pink Chalk Fabrics (my favorite online fabric shop) and much to my checking account's demise, my order included these two items:I can't wait to make these super easy, ragged edge T-shirt patterns. The great thing is that they go from size 6 months up to 7 years and can be for a boy or a girl. The reviews are great for this pattern, and I will share when I complete one of these bad boys.
I swear by this Finnish fashion/pattern magazine. Who knew Finland had it so together in the children's fashion department? Each magazine includes all of the patterns shown on the glossy pages. They go by centimeters instead of inches, but I am working on getting used to the conversions.

Have a great weekend!

Homeschool.

Yesterday we officially started homeschooling with Samuel. We have decided to go with "My Father's World" curriculum and I'm really glad that is the one we chose. Today we are studying creation and more specifically the sky and ocean. Samuel is coloring the sky in the photo below:It will be a process of scheduling and cutting stuff out (probably like my internet usage) to fit in Samuel's schooling. So far, we are treating each day like we have to actually go to school - we are up and clothed/fed/teeth brushed before 8:30 to get started on the lesson.

We also did a weather chart and dressed the teddy bear based on today's weather. The cool thing about homeschooling (well, one of the cool things - there are many) is that the younger kiddos get involved and get a head start on letters, reading, etc.
The younger kiddos also get shuffled off to snack time when they start driving me crazy =).

Opal Owl.

As soon as my friend asked me to make a couple sets of burp cloths, I knew what fabric I would be making a beeline for: I so enjoyed picking out fabric for each gender from this collection. I did the pink/brown fabric as shown below and also chose the green/blue fabric in the bottom row of the collage for the boy burp cloths (not pictured).
I loved experimenting with a chocolate colored zigzag stitch.
Hopefully these will be put to good use!

Europe 2025. PDX to Rome, Day 1.

This trip was many months in the making. I actually love making travel plans and this one was no exception. The difference here was that t...
